At the monthly breakfast of the VFW and American Legion held on Saturday, April 13, American Legion Post 288 received a resolution from State Senator Anthony Portantino who was one of several dozen guests who enjoyed breakfast at the Verdugo Hills Memorial Hall.

The breakfasts, which are held monthly on the second Saturday, are free to supporters of the VFW and/or American Legion and active and retired military personnel.

In addition to the resolution, presented to the Legion in recognition of 100 years of service to the community, several speakers shared stories of their involvement in past wars. One speaker, John Wray, shared the history of his mother, who was a WASP (Women’s Air Force Service Pilots).

“I thought everyone’s mom was a pilot,” Wray shared with the crowd. “It wasn’t until I was much older that I found out that wasn’t the case.”
