Deputies responded to call concerning shots fired in the 1900 block of Waltonia Drive at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday morning.
When deputies first arrived on scene, a person in a gold colored van approached them and said the suspect, who was nearby, had fired at his vehicle. The deputies saw evidence of bullet holes in the body of the van, however when they turned their attention to the man with the firearm, the van driver drove away.
Deputies found the man, later identified as Daniel Kyung, 50, of Montrose, standing in front of a residence holding a gun in his hand, said Sgt. Ray Harley, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Crescenta Valley Station.
“The man matched the description of the suspect that was described by the caller,” Harley said.
The suspect was pointing the gun toward the sky. Deputies ordered the man to place the gun on the ground. He obeyed.
Several spent shell casings were discovered in the area. There were indications that Kyung had been drinking.
The suspect was arrested for shooting at an inhabited dwelling (or vehicle) and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have heard anything like gunshots, yelling or arguing or who may have seen anything in the area during the time of the shooting is asked to contact the CV Sheriff’s Station detectives at (818) 248-3464.
