At a virtual meeting of the Glendale Community College board of trustees on Tuesday, two new members of the board took the oath of office. Desireé Portillo Rabinov of La Crescenta was elected in March to represent Area 1. She won the election by 188 votes. Sevan Benlian won the election to represent Area 5. Both will serve four-year terms in the newly designed districts.
The two join the seven-member board that oversees the workings of the community college. Trustees are elected by area rather than at large. Areas 2, 3 and 4 will hold elections in March 2022.
After the new members were sworn in, the board selected Yvette Vartanian Davis as its president; Dr. Armine Hacopian as vice-president; and Ann Ransford as clerk.
The board discussed concerns about the drop in enrollment as classes moved online and took time to recognize the work of both classified employees and faculty as going “above and beyond” in this time of crisis.
