Hometown Country Fair

The annual Hometown Country Fair, which features games, inflatables, dog parade, pie-eating contest and more, is on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CV Park. This one-day event is free to attend and promises fun for the entire family.

CVCA Meets Tonight

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have its monthly meeting tonight, Thursday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. The CVCA is a cross-jurisdictional, volunteer organization that encourages collaboration between community groups so that the Crescenta Valley can be represented with one voice. 

All are invited to the community room in the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd., (entrance off La Crescenta Avenue).

Strategic Partners Meeting Planned

The next meeting of the Strategic Partners Network is Friday, April 26 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at USC-VHH. Hakop Eulmessekian will be the guest speaker.

Eulmessekian is the director of Student Support Services for Glendale Unified School District.

Bingo Fundraiser

The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge is hosting a bingo night on Friday, April 26 at the Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with first game at 6:30 p.m. All ages welcome with adult supervision. The cost is $20 per player; barbecue meal available for purchase for $10 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Earth Day Celebration at the Rosemont Preserve

Friends of the Rosemont Preserve and the Crescenta Valley Town Council celebrate Earth Day at the Rosemont Preserve on April 27. Festivities start at 11 a.m. with fun activities for the whole family. Girl Scout Troop 5721 will be teaching everyone how to use iNaturalist to post images of wildlife for scientific study Learn about animal tracking and wildlife photography; take a hike through the Preserve; try acorn pancakes and chia jam and enjoy games with the kids.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages, no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail and bring water.

 

City Releases Unclaimed Checks and Deposits Lists

A list of city-issued unclaimed checks, payments not cashed within six (6) months after the date of issue, was released recently. Also released was a list of unclaimed deposits, which are refunds in connection to City Public Works projects.

The City of Glendale Finance Dept. holds these checks and deposits until they are claimed by the recipients and depositors of the funds, respectively. The City may, pursuant to State of California Government Code Section 50050-50056, publish a public notice listing these unclaimed amounts, which are three (3) or more years past their issue date, and thereafter, transfer such funds to its General Fund. GCC Brings Comic to Life in Staging of “Charlie Brown”

“You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz, will be staged by the Glendale Community College Theatre Arts Dept. for a two-weekend run in the Auditorium Mainstage Theatre opening May 2.

The musical is a fresh approach to the 1967 classic based on the comic strip by Charles Schultz.

        Performances are May 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 at 8 p.m. and May 5 and 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission and $15 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased online at www.glendalearts.org or at the box office.

Town Hall Planned

All are invited to join State Senator Anthony J. Portantino and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger for a community town hall on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Tujunga Elks Lodge, 10137 Commerce Ave. in Tujunga. Co-hosted by the Shadow Hills Property Owners Association.

GCC Maker Faire Offers Workshops

The Fourth Annual Maker Faire, sponsored by the GCC Society of Hispanic

Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the GCC Maker Lab, will be held April 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Sierra Vista Building.

Artists, craftspeople, scientists, hobbyists, techies, musicians and makers can participate in interactive workshops, attend career lectures by industry speakers and take part in networking opportunities. The first 150 who register receive a free T-shirt. A continental breakfast and a food truck lunch will be provided.
