Prom Plus is hosting its annual Taste of Montrose on May 1 from 11 am. to 2 p.m. along the 2100 block of Honolulu Avenue.
Taste of Montrose is a collection of about 28 restaurants, some along the avenue and others from the area that will be in a special roped off section on Honolulu. Participants will walk along Honolulu Avenue getting samples of the restaurant’s cuisine.
Some of the restaurants included this year are Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria, Paradis, Zeke’s, Pasta Preziosa, Giuseppe’s, New Moon, and Frank’s Famous.
This event will be in conjunction with Wags and Whiskers, and Kids and Critters, in addition to the weekly Harvest Market.
Crescenta Valley High School Prom Plus was founded 19 years ago after a CV high school student was shot and killed at an unsupervised after prom party. Parents joined with the community to give seniors and their dates a choice on what to do after prom.
The event is held at the Crescenta Cañada YMCA from midnight to 5 a.m. Students are kept busy with a casino room, bungee jump, mechanical bull and Dance Dance Revolution just to name a few of the activities.
The Prom Plus organization fundraises throughout the year to raise the $20,000 for the event. Taste of Montrose is one of their largest fundraisers.
Tickets for Taste of Montrose are available at several local businesses including Paradis, UPS, CV and Montrose-Verdugo City chambers of commerce, Crescenta Valley High School, and J’s Maintenance. Tickets are also available on Honolulu on the day of the event and cost $20.
Two years ago Prom Plus Club was formed at CVHS as the youth support of the organization. Members will be along Honolulu Avenue the day of the event selling tickets and directing participants to restaurants.
