Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), a senior Member of the Intelligence Committee, released the following statement:
“President Obama is right to call for greater certainty on the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime. We have already seen the terrible consequences of acting on flawed intelligence about WMDs and we dare not make that mistake. These allegations underscore the depths of the tragedy engulfing Syria and the urgent need for the United States and the international community to bring the conflict there to an end, and to help the hundreds of thousands of Syrians who have become refugees and the millions more still suffering at home.
“If and when it is proven that the Assad regime has used chemical weapons, the international community must take action that is both proportionate and capable of achieving a demonstrable military end. This includes a relatively narrow list of options – and none involve the introduction of American boots on the ground.”
