Friedman Hosting Coffee & Conversation
Assemblymember Laura Friedman is hosting Coffee & Conversation, an opportunity to discuss upcoming legislation and events within the 43rd Assembly district.
Coffee & Conversation is on Saturday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McCambridge Recreation Center, room 4, 1515 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank.
Work Planned by SCE
Southern California Edison will be performing maintenance on the electrical system in the area. In order to perform this work safely, SCE must temporarily turn off power. This outage will allow the modernization of the grid by making needed upgrades and repairs to increase reliability. Power outages may cause some inconvenience and therefore attempts are made for outages to be isolated down to the smallest area possible and the work completed safely and quickly.
The work will start on May 5 at 8 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. Twenty-eight residential customers will be affected and one commercial customer will be affected. No Traffic Control meters will be affected.
The outage boundary is Los Amigos Avenue east of Castle Way.
Note that the power may be off for the whole period or may be turned off more than once. This planned outage may not begin exactly at the stated start time, and some conditions may cause this planned outage to be postponed. The times noted are SCE’s best estimate and circumstances may affect both the start time and the completion time indicated above.
Questions can be directed to (800) 611-1911.
More Caltrans News
Beginning May 3, the California Dept. of Transportation (Caltrans) will make temporary lane changes along the westbound Foothill Freeway (I-210) between Berkshire Place and Ocean View Boulevard. Construction crews will restripe and shift lanes towards the median. Both eastbound and westbound inner shoulders will be used as traffic lanes. The eastbound inner shoulder will become a temporary bypass lane for westbound traffic. A concrete barrier will separate the eastbound traffic and the westbound bypass lane for the safety of motorists. Two outer lanes (near the ramps) on westbound I-210 will close as crews begin to replace the pavement along the freeway. This bypass lane allows all traffic lanes on westbound I-210 to remain open while work is underway, which will be in effect through winter 2017.
The 210 is a major thoroughfare and, as a result of heavy use, the road needs to be replaced with new pavement. The temporary traffic lane shift and closures are part of a $148.5 million pavement rehabilitation project on I-210 in the cities of Glendale, La Cañada Flintridge and Pasadena. Once the project is completed in 2018 the new surface will provide a smoother drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance, and minimize the need for further lane closures.
Convergence of Activities Expected to Cause Delays
Five big events planned in the Pasadena area for the weekend of May 19-21 are expected to snarl traffic on the 210 Freeway and surrounding areas. The Rose Bowl is hosting U2 on two nights; the concerts have sold out. NASA-JPL is having its two-day open house with an estimated 18,000 people expected to attend. Amgen, a professional cycling race, will pass through La Cañada on May 20, diverting auto traffic. Litfest Pasadena is on Saturday and Sunday in the Pasadena Playhouse District. Museums of the Arroyo Day is on May 21 when six museums in Pasadena and LA will open their doors.
This is in addition to the road work already planned by Caltrans. Travelers are asked to plan accordingly or stay at home instead.
