Exhausted But Happy
As expected, this past weekend was a busy one! On Saturday, there were numerous events that people in the area could attend and support: the Hometown Country Fair benefitting the CV Chamber of Commerce, Art on the Rocks supporting Friends of Rockhaven and the iconic property, and the Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash benefitting the Glendale Kiwanis.
Understandably I couldn’t attend all the events though CV Weekly had a presence at each. In this paper you’ll see some photos from each event and a brief overview of how they went. I spent Saturday at the Hometown Country Fair.
Held at CV Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., I have to share that this year’s event was super-sized as far as the number of attendees (and I have been at every single fair since the beginning). The variety of vendors, cars, food trucks, entertainment and activities no doubt drew the crowds but, most importantly, kept the people at the park. The Hometown Country Fair is one of the biggest fundraisers for the CV Chamber of Commerce (of which I am the secretary) and at Wednesday’s meeting the board confirmed what I thought: this year’s event was, by far, the most successful. And even more good news is that the chamber is accepting memberships from local businesses and residents; I invite you to learn more at www.crescentavalleychamber.org. To find out more about the Fair, read Steve Pierce’s article on page 21.
Up the hill at the beautiful property of St. Luke’s of the Mountains, Friends of Rockhaven held Art on the Rocks. Perfect weather made the event even more successful as people came to check out the art and artists. According to organizer and Friends of Rockhaven president Joanna Linkchorst, there were painters, fabric artists, ceramic artists, musicians, jewelry artists “and lots of cookies to round it all out.” She added that the event was well attended and gave the community an opportunity to enjoy the art and the old church and learn about the history of Rockhaven and the next steps planned for its restoration.
Down the hill at Verdugo Park, thousands of little rubber ducks made their way down “Lake Glendale” hoping to earn their adopters a cash prize. The Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash was held on Saturday and in addition to duck races visitors were treated to live performances, music, information booth and chances to buy some cool duck paraphernalia. According to organizers, more than $100,000 was raised that, ultimately, will benefit youth-driven non-profits. To see more of this incredible race check out this week’s Between Friends section or go online to www.cvweekly.com/BETWEENFRIENDS. And thanks GG Photography for helping us out.
Next week I’ll share the results of Sunday’s big day: the Prom Plus Taste of Montrose!
