Glendale USD plans Community Forums

Budget challenges, Common Core standards and Measure S updates

Glendale Unified School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard Sheehan is scheduling three community forums in June to discuss upcoming budget challenges and planning, new developments in curriculum and assessment, and the implementation of technology and infrastructure under the Measure S bond measure approved by voters in 2011.

A critical component of the community forums will be sharing some difficult budget issues for GUSD schools in the years ahead in light of the continuing state budget crisis, Sheehan told the Board of Education at its May 15 meeting.

“A couple of years earlier in this budget crisis, when the District was faced with making significant cuts, parents asked why we didn’t come to them sooner. This time, we want to meet with parents early,” Sheehan said. There will be one June meeting at each of the comprehensive high schools. The public is invited to attend any meeting.

All meetings begin at 7 p.m. in each school’s Auditorium.
