The Glendale Adventist Medical Center and Adventist Health celebrated the grand opening of the Montrose Urgent Care facility last week.

The urgent care center is designed for people looking for an alternative to visiting a hospital for things that are not life-threatening, such as common illnesses like colds and allergies as well as minor injuries like scrapes, lacerations and minor fractures. The need for this urgent care facility was determined after thorough market research and the community’s necessity to have better access to health care with shorter wait times.

“This grand opening is long overdue,” said Dr. Richard Foullon, who founded the Verdugo Hills Medical Associates and Urgent Care in 1984. “We’ve been asking for something to have as an alternative for non-threatening problems. It’s been a long time in coming.”

Foullon said too many people go to hospitals and spend too much money for things that are not emergencies. That’s when he decided to start an alternative center that was meant to be less expensive, easily accessible and does not require an appointment. The medical team at the center treats minor emergencies and illnesses and offers annual exams, sports physicals, immunizations, screenings, pregnancy tests, lab and X-ray tests, flu shots and pre-employment physicals.

The doctors can see patients on evenings, weekends and even holidays.

“This facility was the collective vision of a number of people but I think the common element was we wanted to provide the best service to the patients in this community,” said Roland Fargo, president of Medical Networks for the Adventist Health/Southern California Region. “That was the cornerstone of Dr. Foullon’s business for 35 years, which was focusing on making sure each patient had a comfortable experience. That’s what we based everything around. It’s exciting to see it all come together.”

The Montrose Urgent Care facility is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

The urgent care center is located at 1975 Verdugo Ave. in La Cañada Flintridge (near the Vons Plaza). No appointments are needed and walk-ins are welcomed. All major insurances accepted. To reach the urgent care center, call (818) 249-9454. For more information, visit www.OopsOuchOhNo.com.
