At the Vietnam War Memorial at Honolulu Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard, guests took part in the 42nd Memorial Day service. The ceremony was co-hosted by the Montrose Shopping Park Association and the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce. Not only were Vietnam War soldiers honored but local residents who served and perished in all wars were remembered and recognized.

About 250 guests attended. The service began at 8:00 a.m. with bagpiper Aaron Shaw followed by CVHS JROTC’s color guard. Supervisor Michael Antonovich was one of the key speakers. “Montrose is very supportive of our war heroes,” said Antonovich in his remarks.

Other guest speakers were Congressman David Dreier, Glendale City Mayor Ara Najarian, MVCOC President Mike Perry and MSPA President Alyce Russell. Senator Carol Liu invited the audience to set aside a specific time of remembrance. “At 3 p.m. let’s remember our war veterans,” she invited. “Just take that moment of silence to remember.”

Organizer Charles Beatty was the emcee/host of the ceremony. “The event had a very successful turn around,” he said. “We had more guests than we thought and everyone did an excellent job speaking.”
