CV Fireworks Hosting Bingo Fundraiser

By Mary O’KEEFE

The Crescenta Valley Fireworks Association is hosting a bingo night on Saturday that will be held at Verdugo Hills Hospital. The doors open at 5 p.m. with the first game beginning at 6 p.m.

This is the first year the Association is hosting a bingo fundraiser and, for the popular local fireworks show to continue, funds have to be raised, according to Robert Wollenwebber, CVFA president.

Several members of the CVFA are also members of the American Legion Post 288 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1614, who have hosted several bingo fundraisers for a variety of nonprofits in the area.

“We desperately need funding,” Wollenwebber added. “Last year’s event lost money.”

So the Association decided to hold the fundraiser.

It costs about $50,000 to put on the Fourth of July fireworks show that is located at Crescenta Valley High School but viewed by thousands across the Crescenta Valley. Many will watch the fireworks from their homes, businesses and other locations, some even making it part of their Fourth of July tradition. Wollenwebber is reaching out to those and all who enjoy the event.

It doesn’t just take funding but volunteers to keep the fireworks event going. Wollenwebber estimates about 1,000 service hours are volunteered by local residents for the event.

“If the community wants to continue to enjoy the fireworks, we need [their support]. Small or large donations are [welcome],” he said.

A great way to provide support is by participating in the bingo night. There are 60 chances to win $100, plus raffle and bonus games. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Bob Smith Toyota, Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce and CV Weekly, as well as at the door.
