Public Urged to Attend Meetings

Breaks in aging water mains, like this one that occurred on May 31 on Pennsylvania and Henrietta avenues, is a reason that CVWD is considering a capital charge on the property tax roll.

The Crescenta Valley Water District is having a public hearing on Tuesday, June 13 beginning at 6 p.m. followed by a board meeting at 7 p.m.

CVWD is considering a capital charge on the property tax roll to raise money to meet its commitment to provide safe and reliable water. According to its website, “This includes safeguarding the ability to serve water to individual properties, to maintain the pipelines that are the backbone of the District’s distribution system, and to provide water to fire services and residents in the event of an emergency such as earthquakes and fires.”

If approved, the capital charge will take effect on the 2023-24 property tax roll and, with annual board approval, continue for several years. The average estimated annual increase would be $404.30.

Community members are encouraged to attend the hearing to voice their position.

CVWD is located at 2700 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.

A meeting is also planned on Saturday, June 24 by LA County Public Works to collect feedback about the current service, what residents would like to see included in the future and to learn about the contract solicitation process.

The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the community room of the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd.
