On Tuesday patrons at Town Kitchen and Grill in Montrose got a little extra service as Glendale police officers waited tables.

The GPD officers were on hand as part of a Tip-A-Cop fundraiser for the Special Olympics Santa Clarita and Tri-Valley athletes.

Officer Matt Zakarian is on the Special Olympics committee and said the event was a great way to promote the organization and an example of how GPD supports Special Olympics.

“A lot of officers promote and we have [new] officers come into the department. This is a good way for them to see what we can do to support Special Olympics,” he said.

The GPD officers were again showing their support to the athletes the following day when the Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run came through town.

Burbank police handed the torch over to GPD at Glenoaks Boulevard and Alameda Avenue at about
1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Special Olympics Games are being held in Long Beach this weekend. The funds raised helps support the athletes with everything from travel expenses to uniforms.
