Summer is just around the corner and that means more people will be out and about having fun hiking, biking and driving along the highways and byways. More traffic brings the higher risks of accidents, some of which can land the victim in the hospital in need of blood.
The American Red Cross is encouraging all that are able to donate blood.
“While all blood types are needed during the critical summer months, type O negative is in high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type, especially in emergency situations,” according to the American Red Cross website.
In an effort to fortify the local blood banks the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station will be conducting a blood drive on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Station members often have blood drives in support of the American Red Cross however this time the drive will be targeted more locally –Huntington Memorial Hospital.
“A lot of times, when our deputies are injured they are transported to Huntington,” said Deputy Jorge Valdivia, community officer at the CV Station. “That is why I wanted to do this fundraiser for them.”
The Bloodmobile will be set up in the front parking lot of the station at 4554 N. Briggs Ave. Those who would like to make an appointment to give blood can do so, however walk-ins are welcome.
