The American Heroes Air Show is coming to the Hansen Dam Sports Complex in Lakeview Terrace this Saturday, June 21, providing an opportunity for attendees to see helicopters up close and personal. The free event is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and open to all ages.

The show will demonstrate how helicopters are utilized in law enforcement, fire fighting, national defense and a host of other public safety scenarios.

The event will also feature an interactive display for Disney’s newest film, “Planes: Fire & Rescue,” which opens in theaters on July 18. Featured in the display are games like the “Smoke Jumpers Supply Drop,” which will place players inside the cockpit of Planes’ protagonist Dusty as he fights a raging forest fire. Items featuring characters from the movie will be given away including stickers, coloring sheets, trading cards and more.

The participation between Disney and air shows has been limited to only a few such events, including the American Heroes Air Show.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be able to share this experience, featuring Dusty and the exciting new characters from ‘Planes: Fire & Rescue’ with fans of all ages,” said James D. Paules, Volunteer Event director.

Chuck Aaron, who has done stunt helicopter work for numerous films, provided technical assistance to the makers of “Planes: Fire & Rescue.” On Saturday, Aaron will give a demonstration of his helicopter skills during the mid-day opening ceremonies, which could include anything from barrel rolls to backflips.

Other helicopter pilots will be on hand to speak with members of the public.

The event will also feature off-site parking near the Aquatic Center and a free shuttle to the event site.
