Two Arrested with Outstanding Warrants; One for also Carrying a Concealed Weapon
On June 14 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers assigned to Glendale PD’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) located a vehicle traveling with expired registration on the 200 block of South Central Avenue. Utilizing departmental resources while the officers were about to initiate a traffic enforcement stop, they discovered that the registered owner of the vehicle had a warrant out for his arrest and a suspended driver’s license. During this time, the vehicle had parked and a male, later identified as 26-year-old Kaylon Grant (transient), exited the vehicle. The officers approached Grant (who was determined to be the registered owner of the vehicle) and the passenger, 36-year-old Jennifer Esqueda of Lake Balboa. During the investigation it was determined that Esqueda also had a warrant out for her arrest.
A search of the vehicle produced a loaded replica ghost gun, debit and credit cards belonging to three other individuals, and a baggie of Psilocybin mushrooms. Grant was arrested and booked for being in possession of a firearm with a prior felony conviction, carrying a concealed weapon with a prior felony conviction, possessing a controlled substance while armed, identity theft and for his outstanding warrants.
Esqueda was arrested for her outstanding warrant.
Three Males Arrested and Booked for Possession of a Firearm and Identity Theft
On June 12 just after 5 p.m., Glendale PD patrol officers responded to a retail store on the 200 block of South Central Avenue regarding a theft that had just occurred. Officers en-route were given suspect descriptions and a sergeant located the suspects traveling near the intersection of Central and Broadway avenues. The sergeant attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle; however, the driver [later identified as 22-year-old Christopher Juarez (transient) who was later discovered to have a prior felony conviction], failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. Juarez ultimately yielded near the intersection of Central and Galleria Way and a felony stop was conducted.
Juarez and his two passengers, 22-year-old Kevin Morales of South Gate (who was later discovered to have a prior felony conviction), and 21-year-old Steve Velasquez of Los Angeles, were immediately detained. During the investigation, officers located the merchandise that had been stolen from the retail store inside of the vehicle along with a pistol, loaded magazine, multiple checks addressed to other individuals and a lock pick set.
Juarez, Morales and Velasquez were all arrested and booked for being in possession of firearm with a prior felony conviction and identity theft.
Male with Prior Felony Conviction Arrested for Weapons and Possession Charges
On June 12 at approximately 3:20 a.m., officers assigned to Glendale PD’s Patrol Bureau conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for moving violations near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Riverdale Drive. Assisting units arrived and spoke with the driver, 62-year-old David Hawkins of Hollywood. During the investigation, officers learned that Hawkins had an outstanding felony warrant out for his arrest for possession of a firearm. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded revolver, eight plastic bags containing methamphetamine, four bags of plastic bags containing Ecstasy, five small glass bottles containing cocaine, a large amount of cash and a glass pipe with a bulbous end. Hawkins was arrested and booked for possessing a firearm with a prior felony conviction, possessing controlled substances while armed, possessing narcotics and controlled substances for sale and for his outstanding warrant.
Juvenile Arrested for Attempted Vehicle Theft
On June 10 just after 1 p.m., Glendale PD patrol officers located a vehicle traveling near the intersection of Central Avenue and Pioneer Drive with a license plate that was associated with a felony want for catalytic converter theft. Assisting units arrived and a felony stop was conducted. Officers spoke to the driver (a juvenile) and a search of the vehicle produced a large amount of cash, a ski mask, multiple “Sawzall” blades and a pay/owe sheet with vehicle makes and prices written on it. During the investigation, officers obtained surveillance footage that showed the juvenile pull up to a parked car on the 200 block of South Central Avenue, look underneath the vehicle then drive off.
The juvenile was subsequently arrested for attempted vehicle burglary and possession of burglary tools.
