The Finest … Fireworks
July 1 marked the deadline for submitting ballots for this year’s The Finest, the Crescenta Valley Weekly poll of the finest places, people and services per readers of the CV Weekly. Now comes the daunting (and I do mean daunting) task of tallying the thousands of votes. Yes, thousands. Because if there’s one thing that our readers value it’s having a voice for their opinions. And don’t we all like to share those people, places and services that are the best, the ones that go beyond expectations?
This is our fifth year holding The Finest. I remember when we, as a team here at CV Weekly, decided to launch The Finest back in 2012. I was so afraid that nobody would participate, that no ballots would be submitted. Boy, was I wrong! But thankfully I had a team in place that could tackle the volume of responses received and accurately count each and every vote. I continue to value each person who helps with this every year, from our designers who refine the ballot to the office manager who receives the ballots to the extra staff that comes aboard to count the votes to the sales people who congratulate the winners. I am also thankful to the designers who create a beautiful, easy-to-use catalogue of the winners for our readers. The catalogue will be inserted in the paper in late September, so keep an eye open for it.
In early October comes one of my favorite events when we host a party for the winners! It typically is an outdoor event and is an opportunity to meet those considered the finest in their fields.
I’m excited to see who will be there this year.

Though we don’t have a category for it on The Finest ballot, I think this year’s fireworks display at Crescenta Valley High School was one of the very best. Congratulations to the CV Fireworks Assn. for another outstanding show. I know how much work it takes to put on an event of this size and it gives me pleasure to say you nailed it.
