The rockets’ red glare and the boom of the bombs bursting in air – also known as the CV fireworks show – are just a fond memory but boy were they fun! If you made your way to La Crescenta Elementary School on July 4th, you shared with thousands the fun of the afternoon. There were more food trucks on the field than last year and all seemed to be doing plenty of business. Being a reporter, I felt duty-bound to try several of the fare and I can attest that it was delicious! Mary O’Keefe, who was there of course, also apparently felt duty-bound to share that she had never seen me eat so much. Thank you, Mary.

The timing wasn’t the best for a food binge, however, because my ankle is still bothering me after falling two weeks ago. This means that there is little to no exercise that I can do to work off the splurge of July 4th. But I did go to the doctor’s on Tuesday and verified that it is just a sprain. I was advised to keep it elevated and wrapped and to have my family wait on me hand and foot.

Perhaps I should have gotten that last part in writing.

Time is running out to voice your opinion as to who is the finest in the land – ballots for the inaugural CVW Finest 2012 are due this week.

We have had a phenomenal response to our first Finest and, as we thought, our readers have strong opinions on who and what they think provide the best food, services and much more. We are so glad to give you all a way to share that opinion with your friends and neighbors. So take a minute, grab and pen and tear out page 22 or download the ballot from www.cvweekly.com and vote for the finest. You can either mail it in or drop it by the office at 3800 La Crescenta Ave. #101 in La Crescenta (we’re at the northeast corner of La Crescenta and Honolulu).

Results will be shared in September.

The team I’ve assembled here at CV Weekly is truly amazing. Without a doubt, there were stumbling blocks in the beginning, which I’m sure many businesses experience, but as we approach our third year I can confidently say that we’ve got it right. This week, we’ve added a name that will be familiar to many in our business community.

Drum roll please: CV Weekly is proud to announce the addition to our staff of Lisa Stanners. She joins equally awesome Kim (Broman) Mekelburg and Lisa Yeghiayan (yes, we now have three Lisas working at CV Weekly!).

I worked with Lisa S. over at the Valley Sun for several years and she brings a wealth of experience to the CV Weekly. She will handle our real estate advertising – both commercial and residential – and she is excited to be back in her old stomping grounds.

If you see her out and about, take a moment to say “hi” and if don’t catch her before October, no problem – you’ll find her at Oktoberfest.
