California State University, Northridge student and La Crescenta resident Talar Alexanian was named to the CSU board of trustees on Friday in a statement issued by the Office of Gov. Jerry Brown.

As a trustee, and one of two representatives from the student body, Alexanian will serve a two-year term on the board. She will serve as a non-voting member until the other student representative’s term expires next year, when she will receive full voting privileges. There are currently 25 members on the board.

“It is essential for the student voice to be heard alongside key decision makers at the board of trustee meetings because they play such an integral role in shaping policies and making critical decisions that affect the entire California State University system,” said Alexanian.

The former CV High School student is an active member of the academic community and is currently pursuing a degree in journalism and public relations. She has been a student member of the CSU Admission Advisory Council since 2012.

“Through my roles as senator and now as vice president of the CSUN Associated Students, I have seen what issues are important to the student population and have taken the necessary steps to resolve them,” said Alexanian. “I am honored to now be a voice for the 437,000 CSU students.”
