On Saturday, Brand Boulevard will be swamped with cars (like those pictured above), but not scooting along an inch at a time in some state of gridlock bumper-to-bumper traffic, but on display for the 20th Annual Cruise Night. Over 250 cars will be featured from Broadway to Milford Street, starting at 5:30 p.m. and continuing until 10:30 p.m.
A unprecedented number of local businesses are sponsoring the event, according to members of Glendale City Community Services.
“There have been generous donations,” said Community Services Manager Onnig Bulanikian. “It’s the first time the event has been fully funded by both corporate and community sponsors.”
Community Services Supervisor Monique Mares added, “This year, we were fortunate enough to partner with several companies who agreed to co-sponsor the event. We have never had such a level of sponsorship in the past and the fact that these companies are sponsoring will ensure the success of [Cruise Night].”
Attendance to Cruise Night is free and available to all ages and will feature live music from the Tokens and the Surfaris, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of “Wipe Out.” The event will be hosted by Brian Beirne, otherwise known as “Mr. Rock N’ Roll,” from K-EARTH 101.
Bulanikian said it is expected that around 30,000 to 40,000 people will attend. Despite the number of cars that will be occupying Brand as part of Cruise Night, parking will be available on Brand, as well as at several structures throughout Downtown Glendale.
