GWP Hosts Traveling Student Art Exhibit

Glendale Water & Power (GWP) hosted the annual student artwork exhibit from July 24 to Aug. 6 at the Glendale City Hall lobby. This art exhibit features award-winning pieces from The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s (MWD) 26 member agencies across its six-county service area, showcasing the creativity and environmental consciousness of young artists that tie into the theme of “Being Waterwise Is…”

Each year, MWD organizes the “Being Waterwise Is…” student art contest as part of its educational outreach efforts conducted by local water agencies. This contest invites students to create artwork that promotes water conservation and the protection of the planet’s most invaluable resource. The winning entries are selected to be featured in an annual calendar and become part of a traveling art show, raising awareness and inspiring communities far and wide.

From a pool of over 2,000 entries, 37 exceptional pieces have been chosen for display during normal business hours at the Glendale City Hall lobby. This exhibit provides a platform for these young artists to share their message of sustainability, water efficiency and conservation with the public before the collection moves on to another MWD member agency. Notably, two talented students from Glendale’s service area have been recognized for their outstanding contributions:

  • Sophia Doh, a third grade student from Monte Vista Elementary School
  • Hayoon Lee, a fifth grade student from Fremont Elementary School

Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the lobby at Glendale City Hall at 613 E. Broadway in Glendale to view these artworks. City hall is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
