Former councilman returns to airwaves showcasing local people, places. Program kicks off on Aug. 1.

Get ready to come “Face to Face” with local people of interest on Charter Cable’s new weeknight anchor program on channel 3 beginning Aug. 1.

Former Glendale City Councilman John Drayman, who will host the program, said that this show features local people from the Glendale, Burbank, La Cañada, La Crescenta and Montrose areas “who make our community special.” Roughly 49,000 viewers in these areas will be able to watch the show on Charter Cable channel 3, which was formerly PBS but now is home to a block of shows produced locally and broadcasted locally.

“Face to Face” will air Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and will be available to over 270,000 Charter subscribers anytime through Charter On Demand.

“The show really focuses on human interest stories, or the human interest side of people and newsmakers and opinion makers,” said Drayman. “For example, our first interview, our first episode if you will, is with [Crescenta Valley Historical Society’s] Mike Lawler, but it’s not the kind of interview you might expect. Yes, it deals with history, but it is not about the history of the area – it’s more about Mike and how he came to be synonymous with history in North Glendale. His background, his family, his kids, his wife, his interest as a young boy in local history, and it also deals with his column at [the Crescenta Valley Weekly] and his book. And one of the segments features a more detailed telling of the story of Red Jensen, the Psycho Child Killer of La Crescenta.”

He added that the show will have a little bit of everything, highlighting people from each of the areas, politicians, news people, or even just someone with an interesting story to tell.

The road to airtime was a long one, though. This has been a project Drayman has been trying to get off the ground for some time.

“It was sort of being in the right place at the right time,” said Drayman.  “I was shopping around the idea of a cable program with this format, and I was looking at local cable stations that had available airtime. I discovered that channel 3, which had been our local KCET station through PBS, was no longer going to carry public broadcasting – that’s now way up on the dial – and channel 3 was going to become just local cable programming. So I was able to pitch the concept of doing a show there and here we are.”
