4800 block of Angeles Crest Highway in La Cañada, a deputy reported seeing a black BMW driving southbound on Angeles Crest Highway in the No. 2 lane. The deputy observed the vehicle had a tinted plastic shield obstructing the vehicle’s rear license plate that made it unreadable from a distance. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and, as he was walking toward the vehicle, he observed the “strong odor of fresh marijuana” coming from the car. The deputy asked the male driver for his driver’s license and vehicle insurance. The driver said he did not have his driver’s license with him. He provided the deputy with a name and date of birth. The deputy asked the three passengers in the vehicle for identification and none had any identification with them. A DMV inquiry found the driver had an expired driver’s license on record. The driver was cited for driving without a valid California driver’s license. The deputy requested additional units to help conduct a narcotics investigation to search for the source of the marijuana odor. The deputy asked the driver if there was anything illegal in his vehicle. The driver reportedly said he had marijuana in the car; when asked if there was anything else illegal he reportedly said no.

The driver and passengers got out of the car as the deputies searched the vehicle. While they were searching, a deputy found a white fanny pack that had been pushed underneath the seat where a female suspect had been sitting. The bag was open and inside deputies found a black semiautomatic handgun with a magazine. The magazine was removed and deputies found it was loaded with “13, 9 mm ammunition rounds.” The search continued and a black plastic bag was found underneath the front passenger seat. The bag allegedly contained a controlled substance that resembled Ecstasy.

A passenger was arrested for suspicion of possession of narcotics for sale. A juvenile passenger was arrested for being in possession of a high capacity magazine and a concealed handgun.

2500 block of Harmony Place in La Crescenta, a dashboard camera was stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight

2900 block of Orange Avenue in La Crescenta, a mailbox was stolen from a home between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m.

July 25

4400 block of Hobbs Drive in La Cañada, deputies responded to an activated alarm at a residence. Deputies found a broken window at the home and an open door. They entered the home and found several rooms had been ransacked. There was nothing reported missing at the time.

The alarm was activated at 8:59 p.m.

July 23

3700 block of Normandy Drive in La Cañada, a deputy responded to an activated alarm at a residence. The deputy found an open door that had been damaged at the rear of a garage. It did not appear anyone gained entry into the home.

The alarm was activated at 9:02 a.m.
