A moderate earthquake, magnitude 4.9, struck just outside Barstow on Monday afternoon causing minor disruptions and shaking across the region.
The earthquake, which occurred at 1 p.m. PT, had its epicenter approximately 22 kilometers (13.7 miles) east-northeast of Barstow. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake originated at a depth of 7.9 kilometers (4.9 miles). Shaking had been reported as far away as 173.2 kilometers (107.4 miles). As of 1:30 p.m., two aftershocks of M3.5 and M2.7 were recorded in the same vicinity.
