Extension Issued for Veterans to Apply for Burn Pit Retroactive Benefits

Updated Aug. 10:

Veterans now have until 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, August 14, 2023, to file their PACT Act claim  – or submit an intent to file  – and be eligible for benefits backdated to August 10, 2022.

From Judy Chu’s office:

Today, Wednesday, Aug. 9 is the last day for veterans to apply for burn pit retroactive benefits.

The PACT (Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics) Act was signed into law about a year ago and expanded the Veterans Administration (VA) health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange and other toxic substances. The PACT Act adds to the list of health conditions that is assumed, or presumed, are caused by exposure to these substances. This law is to help the VA to provide generations of veterans and their survivors with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve.

Veterans can still apply for health care and benefits after today, Wednesday, Aug. 9 but will not receive the retroactive benefits.

Visit https://tinyurl.com/kkerjff9 or call the VA at (800) 698-2411, and you can file a claim for PACT Act related disability compensation or apply for VA health care.
