Aug. 1

900 block of Town Center Drive in La Cañada Flintridge, a witness stated that she saw a man wearing a floppy hat walk around the table where a woman had placed her belongings. The man placed his backpack down on the chair directly behind the woman’s chair. He dug through his backpack, apparently rearranging its contents. He then picked up his belongings and exited the restaurant in an unknown direction. The witness thought the man’s behavior was suspicious because he selected a four-person table directly behind the victim. He was alone and there were other vacant tables available. He placed his backpack on an interior chair behind the woman. The space between the chair and the table was restricted, as it could only extend out so far without contacting the back of the woman’s seat. The woman later found her purse to be gone and presumes the man who sat close to her may have stolen it.
