On the second Saturday of every month the American Legion holds a Veterans and Friends Breakfast. On those Saturday mornings the veterans serve breakfast to anyone who does volunteer work in Crescenta Valley.
“It really is to thank the [people] who volunteer in our community. Anyone who is doing any kind of work, from picking up garbage on our freeway exits to holding a food drive at a church, we want them to come in and share what they are doing and listen to others share how they are volunteering,” said Lynn McGinnis, judge advocate of the American Legion Post 288.
This Saturday at the breakfast will be specifically for those serving in law enforcement.
“Three of us were sitting around after the police shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge and in San Diego,” McGinnis said, “and we said we needed a way to thank the law enforcement [personnel] in our area.”
They decided to honor and recognize the men and women who are working in the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept. at Crescenta Valley Station, Glendale Police Dept. and the California Highway Patrol. Any members of law enforcement are invited to come to the breakfast and to bring their families.
Breakfast is served between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The American Legion Post 288 is located at 4011 La Crescenta Ave.
