Welcome to Crescenta Valley High School! PLEASE READ THIS LETTER CAREFFULLY and keep it for reference.
IN AN ATTEMPT TO REDUCE COSTS, THIS YEAR THE SCHOOL INFORMATION PACKET WILL NOT BE MAILED TO YOUR HOME. INSTEAD, YOUR STUDENT WILL RECEIVE THIS PACKET WHEN THEY PICK UP THEIR STUDENT SCHEDULE DURING REGISTRATION. (See dates below.)
School starts Monday, August 30, 2010, at 7:55 a.m. unless you have a 6:55 a.m. “0” period class. Your first day of school will be a full day, and you should come prepared to meet your teachers and begin work in each of your classes. Bring a pencil, pen, and a notebook. The cafeteria will be open to serve snack and lunch. All students must pick up their textbooks from the textbook office the day they pick up their programs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. You must have your program and 10-11 ID card in order to pick up you textbooks. If you cannot pick up your textbooks on the assigned date, the textbook office will be open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Aug. 25, 26, 27 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Students with outstanding textbook obligations will not be issued textbooks until obligations are cleared.
OFFICIAL STUDENT PROGRAMS: Your official program listing your first semester classes by teacher and period will be distributed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. according to the following schedule:
Seniors: Tuesday, Aug. 17
Sophomores: Monday, Aug. 23
Juniors: Thursday, Aug. 19
Freshman: Wednesday, Aug. 25
Counselors are assigned by alphabet as follows:
C-F, T, U, & Z Ms. Makijan A,N-R Mrs. Mendez
I, K & S Ms. Hairapetian B, M & V-Y Ms. Widman
If you find an error in your program, the counselors will be available on a first come/wait basis between 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to correct errors on the date of you program pick up.
ID CARDS: CVHS PHOTO IDENTIFICATION CARDS will be distributed on program distribution days. You are required to carry your 10-11 CVHS photo ID card during school hours and at all CVHS sponsored events, to use the library, textbook office, and to make any purchase (including dance tickets) from the student store. Class schedules or textbooks will not be distributed without a photo ID card. If you missed photo day last spring, you need to report to the health office. ID photos will be taken and cards printed in the health office during your class program distribution day.
SUMMER SCHOOL CREDITS: If you attended an accredited summer school program in another district this summer, it is your responsibility to bring a copy of the transcripts to school as soon as possible so that your record can be updated, and if necessary, your program adjusted.
NEW ADDRESS/PHONE INFORMATION: It is the parents’ responsibility to notify the school of any residential changes. Please remember to contact the Attendance Office within two weeks of your move.
STUDENT INFORMATION RECORD FORM: (the form will be included in the letter mailed. Parents are to review the form for accuracy. If the information is correct, there is no need to return the form.)
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (FRESHMAN ORIENTATION): The Welcome Assembly will start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, in Mac Donald Auditorium. Programs and ID’s will be distributed in a designated area near the auditorium at the conclusion of the assembly. The assembly will include introductions of administrators and counselors.
CV ASB Cabinet members will highlight the many on-campus activities, as well as information on ASB cards, lock purchases**, and locker locations. The assembly will take approximately 40 minutes. After program and ID distribution, tour of the school will be available to any new student. Falcon Student Planner available for $5. Don’t wait, supply is limited.
**Rosemont locks are not allowed at CV. All locks must be CVHS issued.
YEARBOOK PHOTO: If you did not have your picture taken in the spring, you must have your photo taken Wednesday, Sept. 8 (Photo Make-up Day). Photo make-up day is for yearbook photos only. Finally, if you did not have your picture taken by the professional photographer last spring or on Sept. 8 your individual picture will not appear in the 2010 yearbook (Special not to seniors: Senior portraits, taken at Bronson Studio, are used for the yearbook).
PTSA MEMBERSHIP: PTSA is the largest and most inclusive service club on campus. We encourage your participation and official membership. PTSA coordinates $crip for CV. If you wish to help your sports team, student club, performing arts class, department, classroom-we encourage you to buy $crip. $crip can be purchased through the school website at www.cvhsfalcons.com
SCHOOL/PTSA EMAIL COMMUNICATION AND CVHS WEBSITE: A weekly email bulletin that provides parents and students with information on school events, and deadlines is available. To subscribe, please go to CV’s website at www.cvhsfalcons.com where you will find a link to sign-up for the ebulletin. Click on that link and follow the directions (please only sign-up on the “new subscriber” list).
STUDENT PLEDGE: Students who are under the influence of drugs/alcohol during school hours or at any school sponsored event will be suspended from school and face removal from any co-curricular activity. Students who damage school or private property will face the same consequences and will be financially responsible for those damages. You could lose the right to participate in graduation activities if you are a senior.
A.S.B. MEMBERSHIP: Students are encouraged to purchase an A.S.B. card and become involved in the many student body activities. $35 payable to “CVHS ASB.”
STUDENT ACCIDENT AND HEALTH INSURANCE: Each year the Glendale Unified School District assists parents in securing supplemental accident insurance coverage for students attending our schools. This year we have arranged for parents to purchase accident insurance for your child through the Myers-Stevens $ Toohey Company. Should you be interested, enrollment forms are available in the school main office.
MESSAGES, DOCTOR AND DENTIST APPOINTMENTS, FORGOTTEN LUNCHES, ETC.:
We ask that all doctor, dentist and orthodontist appointments be scheduled outside of the school day. There is a direct correlation between student attendance and student academic success. The attendance office will be glad to receive forgotten lunches, books, gym clothes, etc., but it is the student’s responsibility to check in the attendance office if something has been forgotten. Students will not be called out of class. Flowers, balloons, etc. will not be delivered to students.

A new locker system is being implemented for this school year. (There was an enclosed insert explaining the new system)
