Foothill Municipal Water District supports the governor’s call for 15% voluntary conservation as a result of the ongoing drought in California.
“We ask customers to conserve by limiting watering duration to 10 minutes per day and eliminating runoff to hardscape,” said General Manager Nina Jazmadarian.
For the last two years, California have been experiencing dry weather with below average precipitation. The impact is significant to some regions in the state as groundwater basin levels decline and storage is reduced.
Fortunately, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the supplier of imported water, has developed programs to store water and encourage conservation. These programs have helped insulate local consumers from the shortages being experienced elsewhere. However, it is important that consumers conserve where they can so that the stored water can be used in the future, should this be an extended drought.
Other ways that consumers can help is by using water-efficient appliances and transforming turf to drought-tolerant landscaping. Metropolitan is offering rebates for appliances and turf removal.
A new rebate for leak detection devices is being offered by Metropolitan. With this device, not only are customers conserving water but also saving money. The quicker a leak is caught, the faster a repair can be made that saves the customer from paying for water that was not used.
