CVAA Holding Food Truck Fundraiser

By Jason KUROSU

The Crescenta Valley Alumni Association will be holding a fundraiser in the form of food trucks, which will be parked and ready for business in the 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard near Ralph’s market on Aug. 15 and Aug. 22. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. over the next two Thursdays, the following trucks will be available: Belly BombZ Korean Inspired Wings and Sliders, The Bun Truck, Cambalaches, Meet N Potatoes, Ooh La La Crepes, Vchos, Phantom Truck, Surfer Taco and Pie N Burger.

CV Alumni Association Alice Engh said the food trucks are just part of the fundraising campaign.

“We want to give back to the teachers and the school, especially knowing that there are budget issues when it comes to schools as well as areas of need,” said Engh, a 1991 graduate of Crescenta Valley High.

Engh launched Small Change for Big Change, a nonprofit organization that is spearheading the fundraising effort, working to generate funds for Crescenta Valley High for “anything from Kleenex to highlighters to new bleachers.”

Small Change for Big Change members speak directly with school officials and teachers about what resources are needed. The organization’s efforts led recently to the purchase of two new digital projectors at CVHS.

“You take for granted sometimes that the school has what it needs,” said Engh. “Teachers pay for that stuff out of their own pockets.”

As for the food trucks, Engh said, “This is our first foray into the food trucks idea.”

Should the food trucks prove successful, Engh said they would continue with the food trucks on a weekly basis.
