Dog Park Dedication Planned
A dedication ceremony for the long awaited Crescenta Valley Park dog park, the first dog park in the county of Los Angeles, is slated for Friday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. It is expected that the dog park will actually open some time in September.

The dog park will be located at the west end of Crescenta Valley Park at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta.

Cooling Centers Continue Operation
In response to the ongoing high temperatures, the County of Los Angeles will continue to operate cooling centers during regular business hours in selected areas throughout the county through Friday. Locally, Sparr Heights Community Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. Those planning to visit are advised to call (818) 548-2188 in advance to make sure there is still space available.

Historical Society to Show Renaudo Films
On Monday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m., the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley presents a Joe Renaudo movie, “Glendale On Parade” (1939) and “The Montrose Rodeo” (1947) on glorious 16mm film. The screenings will be at the Center for Spiritual Living.

“Glendale On Parade” was a promotional film produced for the city in the late ’30s. Joe Renaudo has restored the original film and will show it on a vintage film projector along with original film footage of the annual Montrose rodeos that took place in the late ’40s. He’ll also roll the Disney cartoon, “The Little House” plus a Laurel and Hardy short.

This is a free event.

Surfin’ Safari Silent Auction, Fundraiser
Glendale Neighborhood Services is hosting a silent auction today, Thursday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Police Community Room in Glendale. Light refreshments will be served. Help raise funds to continue programs such as graffiti removal, litter abatement and youth education in Glendale neighborhoods.

There will be everything from gift cards to arranged baskets. All items featured in the silent auction are available for immediate purchase.
Kogi BBQ will be bringing its food truck for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Five percent of sales will go to Glendale Clean & Beautiful Inc., the 501(c)3 tax exempt corporation for community beautification.

Goodie Girls Cupcakes will be bringing their signature flavors for dessert from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For every cupcake purchased at the event, $1 will be donated to GCB Inc.

Frysmith – the gourmet French fry truck – will offer Kimchi fries, chili cheese fries and vegan fries. The Frysmith will be at the event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Ten
percent of its sales will be donated to our committee.

Save the Date for City Events
Saturday, Aug. 18 is the third Saturday wilderness workday at Deukmejian Wilderness Park. Volunteers will be gathering at 8 a.m. for a morning of park restoration (tree watering and removal of invasive species). Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road, La Crescenta.

The qualifier for the first annual Glendale City Golf Championship benefitting the Glendale Parks & Open Space Foundation is on Aug. 22 at Scholl Canyon. Finals are on Aug. 27 at Oakmont Country Club.

Glendale Parks & Open Space Foundation sponsors all Trails and Open Space events and programs.
