The Crescenta Valley Youth Town Council announced their new officers during their inaugural meeting of the year. Held on Aug. 14 at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station, the seven members congregated to discuss plans for the upcoming year.
The fourth incarnation of the CV Youth Town Council, which works with the Crescenta Valley Town Council to promote youth participation in community activities, examined potential events to collaborate with the town council, including the Prom Plus picnic and a Sept. 11 remembrance. The picnic is scheduled for Sept. 6 while the 9/11 event is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 13 at Two Strike Park. Crescenta Valley Town Council Vice President Harry Leon said the youth town council is working with the VFW to put the event together and will be announced soon.
With members of the youth town council graduating and moving onto college, new officers were needed. Lisa Chik is the new president after serving as secretary last year. Jennielyn Bazan is the vice president, Abigail Sheklow is secretary, Sena Lin is the treasurer and Elektra Mirzakhanian is the new liaison.
Presiding over the meeting were Leon and Crescenta Valley Town Council Alternate Mariam Barnes, who serve as advisors for the youth town council. According to Barnes, the youth town council’s new officers were selected via a “stringent interview process” rather than the election process the CV Town Council undergoes.
The CV Youth Town Council’s next public meeting will be tonight, Thursday at 6 p.m. at the La Crescenta Public Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
