California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the early Sunday morning fatal crash that killed two people.

CHP began receiving multiple calls of a person driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Foothill (210) Freeway. The first calls came in at 1:46 a.m. Callers stated they witnessed the wrong way driver at the Pennsylvania Avenue exit. Shortly after those first calls, at 1:49 a.m., calls came of an accident at the Angeles Crest Highway exit.

CHP units arrived and found vehicle one blocking the center median facing in a northeasterly direction. The vehicle had major front-end damage. Vehicle two was blocking the number four lane and right shoulder facing a southerly direction, also with major front-end damage.

It was determined by CHP investigators the driver of vehicle number one, later identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as Kevork Khamisian, 32, of Sun Valley, was traveling the wrong way on the 210 Freeway. The driver of the second vehicle was identified by LA County Coroner as Bruce Alvarenga, 23, of Panorama City. Alvarenga was an Uber driver. It is not known if he was working at the time of the crash.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about this horrible accident and our hearts go out to Bruce’s family during this tragic time,” stated an Uber spokesperson.

An investigation is still pending as to whether the use of alcohol or drugs affected the accident.

The autopsies for both victims are pending as of press time, according to an LA County Coroner spokeswoman
