On Friday, the Crescenta Valley once again went a little bear crazy as a mama and baby roamed around the 2400 and 2500 blocks of Cross Street and Fairmount Avenue. The bears spent some time at St. Luke’s of the Mountains, before moving onto the backyard of local residents. The mama and baby moved from backyard to backyard as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies, officials with Pasadena Animal Control and California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife officers kept a watchful eye. The original plan was to attempt to herd them back toward the Angeles National Forest, but the bears were not quite ready to go. The decision was then made to tranquilize the two and take them back home.

“It was a successful dart and return,” said Andrew Hughan, spokesman for Fish and Wildlife. “Both bears were healthy and hopefully will not return.”

Both bears were tagged.
