American Legion Open House
American Legion Post 288 is hosting an open house on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The community is invited to stop by and see all the improvements done on this historic building. There will be tours from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and then a program at 2 p.m. to honor Home Depot and a number of other local companies that helped in the efforts.
The American Legion Memorial Hall is located at 4011 La Crescenta Ave. in La Crescenta.
Prescription Drug Take Back
On Saturday, Sept. 27 CV Alliance takes part in the semi-annual DEA Prescription Drug Take Back. The public is encouraged to bring unused, unwanted, old medicines to CVS Montrose, Rite-Aid La Crescenta or Rite-Aid La Cañada between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for safe and anonymous disposal. Take lancets, needles and syringes to the CV Sheriff’s Station, 4554 Briggs Ave. only.
CV Alliance is also hosting weekly Walk & Talks that begin on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the CV Park recreation building at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. CV Alliance is partnering with Didi Hirsch to build a network of elementary school parents, but everyone’s invited!
Panel Planned to Present Drought Info
The Community Foundation of the Verdugos (CFV) is hosting a free educational panel to help answer questions about the drought and to share some of the latest information on its impact. “California’s Mega Drought” will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge.
Speaker Michael Gunson, an earth scientist with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and Scott Evans, a local author and educator, will discuss JPL’s role in weather monitoring, fact gathering, and assessments of where this is leading California. Balancing out the discussion will be views and suggestions on how all can work with the new normal that changing weather patterns will bring.
