Let’s Schedule a Play Date
All are invited on Saturday, Oct. 1 to Deukmejian Wilderness Park for the “Go Outside and Play!” event from 9 a.m. until noon for children ages 6 to 12. The morning will include outdoor games, a craft and an interpretive hike. This program is free, and snacks and drinks will be provided. Parents and siblings are also invited. Community Input Sought
Metro is seeking input toward improving access and ridership to the 501 NoHO to Pasadena Express route. The community is invited to complete a two-to-four minute survey at http://tinyurl.com/jp2glqu. This is an opportunity to give feedback to using public transit in the foothill communities so that cars can be left behind and greenhouse gas emissions in the area reduced. Service operates from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and every 15 minutes on peak hour, and 30 minutes off peak. Weekend service is from 6:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. every 30 minutes.
SCE Outages Planned for La Crescenta Area
The following Southern California Edison work is planned and may result in temporary outages in the area.
Sept. 29: Night time outage to replace poles and up-fed pole on Verdugo.
Oct. 1: Night time outage to replace two poles and tie circuits together at corner of La Crescenta and Montrose avenue.
Oct. 2: Afternoon work; no outage expected. Removing wire and poles and re-stringing wire bottom of Ramsdell and Pennsylvania avenues.
Oct. 3: Night time outage to upgrade wire and replace poles on Montrose between Ramsdell and Pennsylvania avenues.
Oct. 5: Night time outage to replace last of the poles and energize the circuit.
Oct. 7: Night time outage to tie circuit in and feed the project. Various locations for switching but most of the work will be east of Ramsdell on Montrose Avenue.
Candidates’ Forum Tonight
Crescenta Valley Community Association is hosting a special community meeting with state senate candidate Anthony Portantino at 6 p.m. and L.A. County Supervisor candidate Darrell Park at 8 p.m. in the community room of the La Crescenta Library. Park in the upper lot for best access to the meeting room.
Please come for an informal chat with the candidates. Free and open to the public. There will be light refreshments.

Rain Barrels Still Available
Orders for rain barrels for purchase can still be placed at www.RainBarrelsIntl.com under the Events tab. Preordered barrels will be available for pick up on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Foothill Municipal Water District, 4536 Hampton Road, La Cañada Flintridge. Only rain barrels ordered in advance are guaranteed to be available.
The discounted cost of the rain barrels is $85 each with a rebate being offered through Metropolitan Water District for $75 each. The limit is two rain barrels per household.
This is the last rain barrel distribution co-sponsored by Foothill MWD for the year. Rebate amounts for rain barrels will be revised lower effective Jan. 1, 2017. It is strongly advised that residents interested in rain barrels act now and apply for the rebate.

CVCOC Plans Annual 5K
Applications are now being accepted for the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce annual 5K run held at Two Strike Park on Saturday, Oct. 15. There are seven categories of competition; all ages are welcome. This is a fun family event.
Bring your best Halloween attire that is suitable for the event.
Proceeds benefit the students of Crescenta Valley. Entry fee is $25 (pre-pay by Oct. 8 to guarantee an event T-shirt); $35 day of event. Kids Pumpkin Fun Run is free to all participants, but to guarantee an event T-shirt ($10) participants must preregister by Oct. 8.

Latina Power in STEM Conference Held At GCC
Glendale Community College is hosting a Latina Power in STEM conference on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. More than 350 middle school and high school Latina attendees are expected at the event that will include presentations and activities from TECHNOLOchicas, Microsoft, Apple, LA Makerspace, and SnapChat.
The keynote speaker is Lolita Taub, TEDx Women in Tech and business speaker.
The conference program includes hands-on activities for students in coding, robotics and more; parent STEM and college prep info tracks; educator STEM prep tools track; STEM professionals Q&A session (facilitated by TECHNOLOchicas); raffle prizes, continental breakfast and lunch.
