Man Who Shot at GPD Officers Identified

The man who engaged in a gun battle with Glendale police on Friday has been identified.

Antonio Tafolla Diaz, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene by Glendale Fire Department paramedics after multiple shots were exchanged.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Friday morning Glendale police received a call concerning shots fired in the area of San Fernando Road and Brand Boulevard in Glendale, according to Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

As two officers were checking the area at San Fernando Road and Glendale Avenue, shots were fired at them. When another police unit arrived, it was also struck by gunfire. The two officers who had been fired upon returned fire. Diaz was struck.

Neither police officer that engaged Diaz was injured. The area was shut down for many hours while an investigation was conducted.
