Collision snarls traffic

The driver of a big rig attempted to avert an accident but was unable to do so before slamming into the back of parked big rig on Monday.

An accident involving two big rigs slowed traffic on the westbound Foothill (210) freeway just before the Sunland exit on Monday about 1 p.m.
According to a California Highway Patrol spokesman, a 45-year-old Las Vegas man was driving a big rig westbound in lane four on the Foothill (210) freeway when he reported that a sedan made a lane change directly in front of him.
The driver swerved to the right onto the shoulder where another big rig was parked. The driver attempted to swerve back into lane four but was
unable to do so before slamming into the back of parked big
rig.
The accident caused severe damage to both big rigs. The Las Vegas driver was trapped in the cab of his truck. Firefighters worked to free him and he was transported to a hospital with undetermined injuries.  The driver of the parked big rig did not report any injuries.
The accident is still under investigation.
