Suspect apprehended in fraud case

A man was arrested at the U.S. Post Office, Verdugo City branch, at 2816 Honolulu Ave. on Friday when he attempted to purchase 800 stamps with a fraudulent check. Tea Kang, 41, of Los Angeles was arrested after the postal worker became suspicious of the check.
“He told us he had been cashing fraudulent checks he had made on his computer,” said Sgt. Vahak Mardikian, Glendale Police Department.
Kang also told officers he had cashed false checks at five other post offices around Los Angeles. This was the first time he had been to the Verdugo City branch.
Kang told officers that he had stopped going to L.A. [post offices] because the postmaster was circulating his picture, Mardikian said.
The suspect told police a friend driving a silver Mercedes dropped him off at the post
office and then left. Police
suspect the friend may have been waiting for Kang but got nervous when police arrived,
so fled.
Anyone who may have seen the silver Mercedes or has any information is asked to contact the Glendale Police Department at (818) 548-4840.
