Vanessa Manjarrez, 17, a senior at Mayfield Senior School, was selected as the 95th Tournament of Roses Queen in a ceremony at Tournament House in Pasadena on Tuesday morning.

The queen and her court will reign over the 124th Tournament of Roses Parade and 99th Rose Bowl Game on New Year’s Day. The group of seven young women will participate in a multitude of events leading up to the parade, which this year is themed “Oh, the Places You’ll Go.”

Under a bright morning sun and clad in bright red dresses, the princesses held hands and eagerly awaited the announcement from Rose & Court Committee Chairwoman Joan Madsen. As soon as Manjarrez’s name was announced, her fellow princesses immediately embraced their new queen.

Manjarrez will study business and science while in college, with stem cell research and genetics among her interests. Her hobbies include traveling and volunteering, and she participates in the Dance Conservatory. She is involved with the National Charity League, Pasadena Humane Society, and Villa Esperanza in Pasadena, a center for special needs children.

Manjarrez will be formally crowned at a luncheon at the Pasadena Convention Center on Oct. 25.
