The candidates have been finalized for November’s Crescenta Valley Town Council election. Nine candidates will compete for the three open council seats and three alternate positions on the advisory body, which serves the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County in La Crescenta and Montrose.
The election will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the La Crescenta Library, located at 2809 Foothill Blvd., with the polls open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tonight, Thursday, the CV Town Council will host a candidates’ forum at the La Crescenta Library Community Room. The forum will be open to the public and
offer candidates the opportunity to speak to residents and give brief presentations,
followed by a short question and answer session.
The council seats hold a three-year term, with the alternate positions limited to a single year. Three incumbent council members will seek reelection in the upcoming election including President Cheryl Davis and members Dr. Young Suh and Harry Leon. Additionally, second alternate Leslie Dickson will join Kyle Studebaker, Lisa Griffin, Krista Smiley, Mariam Gabra Barnes, and Kerri Lewin to challenge for a seat on the council.
The forum will also allow residents to meet candidates for the Crescenta Valley Water District board of directors, whose election will take place as part of the general election on Nov. 5.
The 12-member CV Town Council serves the community by communicating the area’s needs to various city, county, and state public agencies. Consisting of nine voting members and three alternates, the board meets publicly monthly to discuss issues of local land use and various other community issues.
After the election, the town council’s voting members will decide the officers for 2014. Consideration for the position of president or vice president requires at least one year of service as a council member.
Information about the nine candidates can be found on the CV Town Council website at www.thecvcouncil.com.
