Red Flag Warning Issued

By Mary O’KEEFE

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning that will be in effect from today, Thursday, at 1 a.m. to Friday at 10 p.m., according to Keily Delerme, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The Red Flag Warning covers most of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Peak wind gusts between 45 and 64 mph are expected with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph. There is minimum humidity that will likely be well below 10% with maximum temperatures between 87 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Red Flag Warning has prompted Southern California Edison to notify their customers of possible power outages. The decision to cut power to specific customers will be determined by the weather.

SCE has its own meteorologists and 400 weather stations that feed information on a more localized level, said Mary Ann Milbourn, SCE spokesperson, in an earlier interview with CVW.

During wind advisories, SCE has linemen in the field who monitor conditions.

Glendale Water and Power does not anticipate a power outage due to the Red Flag Warning. There are some transition lines that are managed by SCE that feed power to GWP that could be affected. If this happens, GWP will notify affected customers and continue to inform them as the situation continues, according to a statement from GWP.

For any power-related emergencies concerning GWP, call (818) 548-2011. For power questions concerning SCE, call (800) 611-1911.
