The Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash – KIDS – hosted by the Glendale Kiwanis Club was held at Verdugo Park on Oct 13 when industrious volunteers created Lake Glendale where about 17,000 rubber ducks raced to the finish line throughout the day.
Those that visited the race not only were able to see the spectacle of rubber duckies with sunglasses racing down a rapid river, but had the opportunity to visit various booths, trying their hand at several games of chance.
The event was sponsored by the Kiwanis but powered by volunteers from the local high school Key Clubs and Rosemont Builders Club.
A short walk in the park from the ducks and visitors was the Glendale Police Dept.’s K9 unit. The dogs, and their officer handlers, demonstrated the techniques the animals use in helping the officers in their day-to-day police work. The event was sponsored by the Glendale Police Foundation, the Glendale K9 Unit, the city of Glendale and the Community Services and Parks.
There were several fun activities for dogs and their pet parents including a pet adoption fair and pet costume and speed contests.
