Beware, Trick-or-Treaters: It’s Spooktacular

By Jason KUROSU

The annual Montrose Spooktacular will befall the 2200 block of Honolulu Avenue this Halloween, leaving the street populated by ghosts, demons and all manner of spooks, for at least a few hours. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the avenue will feature booths up and down the block, replete with food, games and candy, especially.

Prizes can also be won at the various game booths and in the contests. The Spooktacular will feature a costume contest (categories include spooky, cute, most original and family), a pet costume contest and a Thriller dance contest. Along with the carnival games, carnival rides such as bounce castles, slides and an obstacle course will provide the smaller attendees with activities.

For those interested in consuming something other than candy, the food booths will be selling hot dogs, lemonade, corn on the cob, kettle corn and much more. The candy, however, will be given out.

Maureen Palacios, owner of the Once Upon a Time bookstore, will be one of the merchants giving out candy.

“We’re very excited,” Palacios said. “This is one of our favorite events because we love seeing our customers dressed up. There are thousands of children in a family-friendly environment, a safe place and also merchants that we know, trust and care about.”
