The admission free American Heroes Air Show on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will take place at Hansen Dam Recreation Center. Plans are being finalized for U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) to swear in candidates for U.S. citizenship and present their citizenship certificates as attending family members cheer on this significant accomplishment that will commence at 11 a.m.
Steve Goldsworthy, volunteer – event director, is at work with his team on final event details.
“We’re proud to have USCIS partner with us once again for this very special event element when the American Heroes Air Show lands at the Hansen Dam Recreation Center,” Goldsworthy said. “It’s our honor to recognize our newest U.S. citizens and welcome their attending families to this special ceremony – just one part of this diverse community event where we recognize our heroes in law enforcement, fire/EMS, national defense and homeland security.”
The USCIS office in Los Angeles has partnered with the American Heroes Air Show volunteer team over a number of years. This special ceremony honors the citizenship candidates who have – through their hard work and dedication – completed the citizenship process and will affirm this final hurdle to becoming a U.S. citizen.
“Given the exciting theme of the Heroes event it’s a great opportunity to bring this educational ceremony to the community,” added Goldsworthy. “Not many people get to witness a formal citizenship ceremony and it provides a compelling real-life civics lesson as well as a memorable way for the community to understand the sometimes-complex citizenship process.”
The keynote speaker for the ceremony is a naturalized U.S. citizen who will profile his journey to America and his career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. and continuing law enforcement partnership with the U.S. Dept. of Justice.
Dean Schofield will open the citizenship ceremony with his emotional rendition of the national anthem rendered in front a striking backdrop of emergency fire/EMS vehicles provided by the Los Angeles County Fire Dept.
Since it’s first event in 1993, the American Heroes Air Show has grown into the nation’s premier admission free, helicopter-only aviation experience dedicated to educating the public about dynamic careers in public safety and the unique capabilities of helicopters in community service, homeland defense and national security. The community is also welcome to the CODE3 Career & Recruiting Expo where recruiting teams from law enforcement, government services and the military will be on-hand to provide information on their hiring, training and application processes.
The Heroes event also offers emergency preparedness information, presentations by local dignitaries along with exciting flight demonstrations, helicopter rides and public service themed educational activities for the entire family.
