Traffic Accident Claims One

On Oct. 27 a fatal car accident occurred in the 9100 block of N. Tujunga Canyon Boulevard.

The fatality was Crescenta Valley High School student Christine Martinez, 17, who was thrown from the vehicle that was driven by another CVHS student.

The community came together on Saturday following the crash to remember Christine. About 200 people, including parents, fellow students, teachers and administrators, held a candlelight vigil at St. Luke’s of the Mountains. Christine was a member of the CVHS soccer team and had touched many lives in her brief three months at the school.

Three other teenagers – two passengers, both 17, and the driver Summer Solomon, 18 – were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. They were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Los Angeles Police Dept. Traffic Division responded to the fatal solo car crash at 10:20 p.m. on Oct. 27. When officers arrived they found a 1998 Ford Escape had rolled over the bank of the road.

“The driver lost control of her vehicle and rolled over [the bank],” said Ofc. Hammers, LAPD Traffic Division.

“The cause of the accident was speed,” said Det. Doug Larkin, LAPD.

The driver was not found to be driving under the influence, he said.
