Along for the Ride

On Saturday night I had the chance to be the navigator in the car that took our Halloween judges around the Crescenta Valley. They were tasked with checking out the more than 40 places that submitted their addresses for the Fun and Frights in the Foothills Halloween self-driving tour. They then had to decide on the best displays in six different categories. (To see the winners and the names of those who donated gift cards to the winners check out page 11.)

When CV Weekly decided to create the Halloween drive-by tour, we weren’t sure how well people would respond to the idea. But it soon was evident that fellow Halloween enthusiasts were as eager as we to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve. Over 40 addresses were submitted for the tour and, to sweeten the pot, several businesses donated gift cards as awards.

Though I wasn’t a judge I had a great time as a passenger making my way from La Cañada to Sunland-Tujunga while marveling at the ingenuity of those who decorated. Thank you to all who participated.

I was also a passenger on Monday afternoon when my son Andy and I headed out to vote – then enjoy lunch. Politics were never a “big deal” in our household and, truth be told, I was unsure whether or not my boys were registered to vote much less if they exercised their right. So I was especially pleased when Andy texted me to ask if I wanted to have lunch and vote.

Regardless of political leanings, this election was especially important. Andy and I headed to the La Crescenta Woman’s Club where there was plenty of hand sanitizer and helpers to assist us with the voting machines. In no time at all we were heading to Kooby’s on Honolulu just west of La Crescenta Avenue to enjoy a lunch of burgers and wraps.

As of press time, the Presidential contest has not been decided; however, I am proud to know of the high number of people who recognized the importance of voting and took the time to take part in our electoral process.
