Prom Plus will be hosting its annual holiday boutique fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The community event will be held at the St. Luke’s of the Mountains Church on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Rosemont Avenue in La Crescenta.
Prom Plus was founded after a tragic event in 1991 when a CVHS student was murdered at an unsupervised, post-prom hotel party. The organization aims to provide a memorable yet safe after-prom event for CVHS seniors and their guests.
The holiday boutique is one of the organization’s most popular events to raise money to offset the $25,000 price tag for Prom Plus. Shoppers will meet local vendors presenting a wide range of items for sale, from hand-made jewelry to sculpted bowls to comic books. This year, the boutique will feature speakers who will give brief presentations on a variety of topics, including social media and special holiday gifts.
“We have an amazing variety of vendors at the boutique that will kick off the holiday shopping season,” said Lisa Yeghiayan, Prom Plus co-vice president and chair of Public Relations. “We hope our community will join together and support us.”
Another community favorite is the Crescenta Valley High School acapella group the Charismatics. The group, outfitted in period costume, will perform at 11 a.m. at the boutique. Musicians from Rosemont Middle School will also be playing throughout the day.
Hosting the holiday boutique requires a great amount of work. Yeghiayan is helping to coordinate the boutique by putting up banners and recruiting more vendors.
There is no cost to attend, and the first 200 attendees will receive a free reusable tote. Many local businesses and non-profit organizations have supported Prom Plus and their logos will be featured on the totes.
“This year, our after-party will be bigger and better. Our Prom Plus attendees can look forward to an amazing post-prom party!” Yeghiayan said.
