Big Plans

I knew that this past weekend was going to be busy for both Steve and me. He was overseeing the American Heroes Airshow in Hansen Dam on Saturday; I was overseeing the Prom Plus Holiday Boutique the same day. I was disappointed that neither of us could support the other’s event but sometimes timing works out that way.

When preparing for a big event – like American Heroes Airshow or the Prom Plus Holiday Boutique – and knowing we can’t spend time together, Steve and I try to grab some time beforehand. Last Friday we headed over to the Wine Cave on Honolulu Avenue to sip some red, eat some pizza from Giuseppe’s and listen to the Moresomes, the band that April Ray (of April Ray Hair Salon) is the drummer for.

We had heard before that the band was good and it didn’t disappoint. With a repertoire that included covers of tunes from the ’70s and ’80s, I found myself dancing in my chair – probably the best place for me.

On Saturday I headed to CV Park for the boutique. I have to give a shout-out to Kaipo Chock who not only attends nearly every single Prom Plus meeting but was at my house first thing on Saturday to pick up the big grill to cook hot dogs – a first-time offering at the boutique. And many thanks are extended to the members of the Prom Plus Club – the youth on-campus arm of Prom Plus ¬– whose members were at the community room on Friday evening and Saturday to help set up the tables and chairs and assist vendors as they came in. Also, Diana Tyson was the organizer of the boutique; without her we couldn’t pull it together.

The variety of vendors was awesome. Whether shoppers were looking for lipstick or linens, our boutique had it. And, being as generous as they are, four are extending their giving to Prom Plus. Jennifer Hronek with Joie de Vivre/Boatman Geller, Shanda Vail with The Pampered Chef, Bo Freeman of Lacuna and Amy Woodward Malysz of Essential Bodywear are all extending their donations to Prom Plus. Through Nov. 17, customers who reference Prom Plus will have 15% of their sales donated. Visit the 2019 Prom Plus Holiday Boutique Facebook site for details.

Of course, the fundraiser wouldn’t have been successful without our shoppers. Many thanks are extended to the hundreds who stopped by. It was a pleasure to see you!
